大正5年の起工以来7カ年の歳月をかけて完成した福岡市で最初の上水道ダムです｡堰堤（えんてい）の高さ45メートル､長さ161メートル､上部の幅4メートルの規模で､260万8千トンの貯水が可能な重力式ダムです。当初は12万人へ給水をしていましたが､市勢の発展と共にダムも拡張工事が行われ､現在の大きさになりました｡
　堤体のふもとの曲渕ダムパークでは、春には桜が、秋には紅葉が楽しめます。平成20年度に曲渕水源地水道施設として市の有形文化財に指定されています。

This is Fukuoka City’s first municipal water-supply dam, begun in 1916 (Taishō 5) and completed after seven years. It is a gravity dam measuring 45 meters in height, 161 meters in length, and 4.0 meters in crest width, with a storage capacity of 2,608,000 tons of water. Initially it supplied water to 120,000 people, but as the city grew, expansion work was carried out and the dam reached its present size.

At Magaribuchi Dam Park at the foot of the dam, you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and colorful foliage in autumn. In fiscal 2008 it was designated by the City of Fukuoka as a Tangible Cultural Property under the name “Magaribuchi Water Source Waterworks Facilities.”
