今宿古墳群を構成する前方後円墳の一つ。今宿古墳群は、高祖山（たかすやま）から叶岳（かのうだけ）の麓に築造された7基の前方後円墳を中心とする古墳群であり、2004年に「今宿古墳群」として国史跡に指定されました。
　墳丘は後世の改変を受けているものの、発掘調査により全長は約44mと推定されています。出土した土師器や獣帯鏡片から、4世紀前半の築造と考えられ、今宿古墳群の首長墓の中でも最古に位置づけられます。
　現在は公園として整備され、付近には遊具も設置されています。秋には灯明まつりが開催され、幅広い層の市民に親しまれています。

One of the keyhole-shaped megalithic tombs (kofun) that make up the Imajuku Kofun Cluster. The cluster centers on seven keyhole-shaped tombs constructed in the Kofun period at the foot of Mount Takasu and Mount Kanō, and in 2004 the seven kofun were designated a National Historic Site of Japan as the “Imajuku Kofun Cluster,” including the surrounding tombs.

Although the mound of Yamanohana No. 1 has been altered in later times, excavations estimate its total length at about 44 meters. From the excavated Haji ware and fragments of a belt-ornamented bronze mirror (zōtai-kyō), it is thought to have been built in the early 4th century, making it the oldest of the tombs to house governors within the Imajuku Kofun Cluster.

Today the site has been developed as a park, with playground equipment installed nearby. In autumn, an illumination/lantern festival is held, and the site is beloved by citizens of all ages.
