冷泉荘（旧八木アパート）は、昭和33(1958)年に建てられた地上 5 階地下１階建、RC(鉄筋コンクリート)造の元民間集合住宅として、国の有形文化財に登録されています。
　所在する上川端町は、福岡大空襲で一面が焼け野原になり、戦災後商業地として都市不燃化を図りRC造公営住宅がいち早く建設された地域です。その過程で建設された冷泉荘は、旧博多部における戦後復興期の民間のRC造集合住宅として貴重です。建築主が民間事業者ならではの自由な住戸計画をもち、東西2つの異なる階段配置や上階のセットバックが特徴的な外観を生み出しています。集合住宅としての昭和中期の間取りや設えが保存されている「当初部屋」は必見です。
　所有者の基本理念である“福岡の古い建物を大切にする考え方の実践（ビルストック活用）”に基づき、建物の特徴や来歴を尊重した､積極的な保存活用がなされています。例年、初夏に開催される「れいぜん荘ピクニック」では建物散策、見学イベントなど、冷泉荘の一般公開も積極的に行われてます。

Reizensou (formerly the Yagi Apartments) is a five-story-above-ground, one-basement reinforced-concrete (RC) former private apartment block built in 1958 (Shōwa 33) and registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property. It stands in Kamikawabata-machi, an area that was reduced to ashes in the Fukuoka air raids. In the postwar years, the district promoted fire-resistant urban redevelopment, and RC public housing was built early on; constructed in that context, Reizensou is a rare example of a private RC apartment building from the postwar reconstruction period in the former Hakata quarter. As a project by a private developer, it featured flexible unit planning; its exterior is distinguished by two different staircase layouts on the east and west sides and setbacks on the upper floors. A must-see is the “original room,” which preserves the mid-Shōwa-era apartment layout and fittings.

Guided by the owner’s core philosophy—“putting into practice the idea of valuing Fukuoka’s older buildings (building-stock utilization)”—the site has been actively conserved and repurposed with respect for the building’s characteristics and history. Each early summer, the “Reizensou Picnic” open day features building walks and tour events, and the facility is proactively opened to the public.
