明治・大正時代の博多の暮らしと文化を広く紹介する施設で、展示棟、町家棟、物産棟に分かれています。町家棟は明治20年代前半に博多織元の住居・店舗兼織り場として、旧櫛田前町通りに面して建てられた旧三浦家住宅を移築復元したもの。平成4(1992)年、前所有者の三浦新五郎氏より福岡市に譲渡されました。古き良き町家のつくりを見学できるほか、博多織の実演や手織り体験（無料・予約不要）も行っています。
　展示棟は「流（ながれ）」という博多独自の町割りの組織のなかでのさまざまな祭り、博多のもんの気質と人情、生活などをわかりやすく展示しています。2階では伝統工芸品の実演や、体験（有料）も。物産棟では博多にちなんだグッズを販売している他、カフェも併設されています。

This facility broadly introduces the lifestyles and culture of Hakata in the Meiji and Taishō eras, and is divided into three zones: the Exhibition Hall, the Machiya Hall, and the Product Hall (shop). The Machiya Hall is a relocated and restored former Miura family residence, originally built in the early 1890s (Meiji 20s) as a combined dwelling, shop, and weaving workshop of a Hakata-ori producer facing the former Kushida-mae-machi street. In 1992 (Heisei 4), its former owner, Mr. Miura Shingorō, donated it to Fukuoka City. In addition to touring the charming architecture of an old-town machiya, visitors can watch Hakata-ori demonstrations and even try simple hand-weaving (free, no reservation required).

The Exhibition Hall presents, in an easy-to-understand way, Hakata’s unique neighborhood organization called nagare (“flows”) and the festivals within it, along with the temperament, human warmth, and daily life of the people of Hakata. On the second floor there are live demonstrations of traditional crafts and hands-on experiences (fee required). The Product Hall sells Hakata-related goods and also includes a café.

Closed: Fourth Monday of each month (if it falls on a national holiday, closed the following weekday)
