九州大学箱崎サテライトの西側に位置する元銭湯。昭和7(1932)年に創業し、旧九州帝国大学時代の学生街にある銭湯として学生や地域住民に利用されていました。平成24(2012）年に廃業後は、『創造の湯で心を洗う』をコンセプトに、現在はコミュニティ・レンタルスペースやアーティスト・銀ソーダ氏のアトリエとして公開しており、地域住民はもちろん、全国各地へ交流の幅を広げ活用されています。銭湯建築の特徴である浴槽や脱衣室、番台など内部をそのまま保存し活かす、唯一無二の保存活用の活動は必見です。
　建物正面入口には創業当時からの「大學湯」の看板を掲げ、玄関ポーチや下見板張りの壁にペンキで彩られたの洋風の外観は、昭和初期の旧学生街の銭湯建築の遺構として、歴史的な景観を残しており、国の有形文化財に登録されています。

Located just west of Kyushu University’s Hakozaki Satellite, this former public bath (sento) opened in 1932 (Showa 7). As the neighborhood bathhouse in the student quarter that once served the former Kyushu Imperial University, it was used by students and local residents alike. After ceasing operations in 2012 (Heisei 24), it adopted the concept of “washing the heart in a bath of creativity” and is now open to the public as a community rental space and as the atelier of the artist Ginsoda. Its activities, which preserve and make use of the original interior—bathtubs, changing rooms, the bandai (attendant’s counter), and more—are a one-of-a-kind model of conservation and adaptive reuse that is well worth seeing, fostering exchange not only among local residents but with people from all over Japan.

At the main entrance, the original “大學湯 (Daigaku-yu)” signboard from the time of its founding still hangs. The Western-style exterior—painted weatherboard walls and an entrance porch—retains the historic streetscape of an early-Showa student-district bathhouse. The building is a registered National Tangible Cultural Property.
