臨済宗東福寺派の禅宗寺院。大永四年銘梵字板碑（だいえいよねんめいぼんじいたび）や銅造菩薩坐像（どうぞうぼさつざぞう）、木造観音菩薩立像（もくぞうかんのんぼさつりゅうぞう）は市の有形文化財に指定されています。
　行事がない日は座禅、写経、茶道、本堂の木材と天然石を用いた数珠作り体験ができます（ご希望の際は、事前にお寺に連絡が必要です）。
　本堂へ続く階段を登った先には、博多湾を臨む絶景が広がっています。

Shogonji is a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect (Tōfuku-ji branch). A stone slab (itabi) inscribed with Siddham (Sanskrit) characters dated to Daiei 4 (1524), a cast-bronze seated bodhisattva statue, and a wooden standing statue of Kannon (Avalokiteśvara) are designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of the city.

On days without temple events, visitors can take part in zazen (seated meditation), sutra transcription, tea ceremony, and a prayer-bead making workshop that uses timber from the main hall together with natural stones (advance contact with the temple is required if you wish to participate).

Climb the stairs leading to the main hall and a sweeping panoramic view of Hakata Bay opens up.
